 Tropaeolum tuberosum
Perennial climber with 3-6 lobed grey green leaves and long-spurred, cup shaped flowers
from midsummer to autumn
Height: Will grow up to 12ft given good
conditions.
Hardiness: Not fully hardy. I lift some of the tubers and store in a frost free shed, just in
case but most have survived outside if they are in a well drained spot.
Propagation: These are self propagating, for
every tuber planted you will find 5 or 6 when you lift them in late autumn. Can be grown
from seed, sow as soon as ripe in frost free greenhouse.
Notes: A lot more interesting than the
common nasturtium. Good plant for containers, try it in a 12" pot with a 8ft cane
wigwam, feed well, spectacular! I often cut it back when the flowers start to fade to get
a slightly lower growing second flush.
