 Gunnera manicata
Very large clump forming herbaceous perennial with large deeply veined leaves borne on
prickly stalks
Height: 10-12ft.
Hardiness: Hardy once established
Propagation: Slow growing from seed set as
soon as ripe in frost free greenhouse
Notes: The ultimate foliage plant, leaves up
to 6ft. across, Likes full sun but with damp roots. Mine is planted in its own little bog
garden 3ft deep 4ft diameter lined with black plastic and takes the over flow from the
pond. Plenty of feeding during growing season and stand back. I cut off the leaves at the
first sign of frost and use them to cover the crown during winter. |
