 Eryngium
( Sea Holly)
Large genus of annuals, biennials and
perennials, most of which form basal rosettes with thistle like umbels of flowers on
branched stems. Colours range from silver though green to electric blues and purples.
Height: From 12" to 60"
Hardiness: Almost all are fully hardy.
Propagation: Easily grown from fresh seed
sown in autumn under a cold frame.
Notes: Spectacular is the only way to
describe these plants after the stems and flowers have turned colour, early evening light
almost makes them appear like neon strips. A must for any sunny position. Apparently they
preserve their colour well when dried if cut before the flowers open.
