 Cordyline australis
(cabbage palm)
Evergreen shrub resembling a palm available
in various colours and variegations.
Height: 15 to 25 ft
Hardiness: The plain green leafed variety
seems to be perfectly hardy in this area, some of the more colourful varieties may not be.
Propagation: Can be grown from seed sown in
spring. Suckers can be removed from parent plants when well rooted.
Notes: How exotic can you get, palm trees in
East Anglia? If you've got the patience a very rewarding plant particularly when in
flower, 7 - 9 years. Removing the dead leaves from the trunk is best done in late spring
so that they can provide some winter protection.
