 Canna
(Indian shot plant)
Rhizomatous herbaceous perennial with large
alternate paddle-shapped leaves up to 24" long and exotic looking flowers.
Height: Up to 6ft.
Hardiness: Tender in most of UK but may
survive outdoors in milder area if well mulched over winter. To be on the safe side treat
as dahlias: lift rhizomes and store in a frost free place in barely moist peat or leaf
mold
Propagation: Can be grown from seed but
better to split in spring before replanting.
Notes: Instant tropics, one of the most
satisfying plants to propagate and grow. Well worth the trouble of over wintering and
although good specimens can be expensive they multiply rapidly if you split them every
year. Good pot plants. |
