Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'     aeonium

Erect succulent subshrub with few branches each bearing a tightly packed rosette of black-purple leaves

Height: 1 metre (can grow higher in frost free areas)

Hardiness: Not normally hardy in this part of the country, grows well if planted out after danger of frosts is over and potted up to overwinter in frost free greenhouse.

Propagation: Take leaves from rosette in early summer, allow a scab to form (3-4 days) plant in very sharp almost dry compost and keep at 62F.

Notes: A must for anyone with a sandy gravel bed. Leaves will turn green if light levels are not high enough. This usually happens to my plants during the winter but they soon regain colour in late spring.
